On 10 February 2020, I gave a presentation on “How running data influences our behaviour” in an Enschede Marathon organization, Where Science Meets the Runner Congress. During the presentation, I described shreds of evidence we arrived at in a recent study that we conducted with my colleague Ruben Gouveia. I concluded my presentation, with three take-away messages that both as a runner and a scientist I believe are important to reflect on:
Use the data as long as you benefit from it both physically and emotionally.
Keep in mind that data is a combination of metrics that tells how your body reacts to your training and/or performance.
Make reflections, make reasoning, make plans; but keep data as a part of the fun of your running experience.
